Blogging in Kenya has come a long way From when people were using it as a platform for self expression, to a hobby where most run their blogs ‘on the side’ while still fully employed or running another business.
Many are still struggling to make blogging a full time vocation despite there being over 2,000 blogs in Kenya.
The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) is at the forefront of helping guide bloggers on making their platforms into something they can make a living from. For this reason, BAKE will be hosting a training to engage bloggers in various sectors who have successfully turned their blogs into businesses.
They will take us through lessons learnt; challenges faced as well as give hands on tips on areas
such as;
• Why blogging? – starting point, sources of information
• registering a domain – to get a .com or .co.ke?
• migrating to a self hosted domain
• content – getting it, editorial polity, contributors, uniqueness
• Networks- Go to tech people, hubs, meet-ups, associations
• Marketing, Analytics & SEO
• Money – average income, other opportunities & perks
• Best practices – Disclosures, attribution
• Legal, Copyrights & government regulations
• Future plans
