Emily Nderitu runs Kenyatalii the 2013 BAKE Awards Best Travelling Blog. Kenyatalii is a blog that highlights various travel locations around Kenya on a budget.
The blog is mainly focused on how to travel on a budget and experience the various great travel attractions in Kenya.
We had a few questions for her and this is what she had to say:
1. What do you do aside from blogging?
I have a full time job as a Business Executive in one of our media houses
2.What made you decide to start blogging?
Traveling is a hobby, I find myself offering advice to various locations to travel around Kenya. Hence the blog Kenyatalii.com.
3. What/ who is your inspiration?
Alex Maina of Africa Centre for Internet marketing. I met him and he trained me on the various aspects of blogging as a business.
4. What blogging trend(s) do you hate and why?
Gossip. More often than not the gossip will affect people involved and people around them. Why gossip?
5. What are the challenges you face as a blogger?
Content creation, I hardly get enough time to write and the fact that blogging has still not been embraced as a business venture.
6 Any question for us? We will publish the answer as well.
Any training on blogging as a business available?
We have a few training sessions set up in the coming year that will focus on that. ANy blogger is welcome to approach us for a one on one session as well
7. What’s the weirdest thing anyone has ever said about your blog? How did you react to it.
It wasn’t a weird comment but more of a discouraging one. They said “whatever you are doing will never work nor fetch you any prospects of business”. It gave me reason to keep blogging considering travel first a passion then a business.
8. What are your top 3 blogs and what makes them special?
1. Go Backpacking – An interesting blog about the various experiences of backpacking around the world.
2. Pika Chakula – They offer great cooking recipes
3. Mutua Matheka – The photos are always inspiring especially those that highlight the various travel locations around Kenya.
9. What should people expect from your blog in future?
Opportunities to book their desired safaris on Kenyatalii
10. What tips would you give new bloggers to help them start out on a path to success?
Research, and always have your facts right. Blog on a topic that you enjoy.
