The best tablets and smartphones unveiled at CES 2014

The International CES is a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show typically hosts previews of products and new product announcements.

2014 got off to a great start for electronic companies. They all got a chance to show why they are at the top of their game when it comes to certain products.

Here are a few mobile phones and tablets we were most impressed with. Something definitely worth spending your money on

 Sony Xperia Z1 Compact

Sony

I am personally a great fan of the Sony Xperia z1. It was in my top 5 gadgets of 2013. The Japanese company decided to step it up a notch and unveiled the smaller Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

Generally, phone companies mess up when they go for a compact version of a phone. Sony didn’t do this when it came to the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. It still incorporates all the features of its bigger brother despite the fact that they are carried in a smaller form.

It still has the same quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 20.7 mega-pixel camera. The only differences between the two smartphones is that the Z1 Compact’s 4.3-inch runs at the lower 1280*720 pixel resolution. This shouldn’t turn you off since it’s still a stunning Triluminous display that utilises Sony’s Mobile Bravia 2 engine.

Sony’s waterproof 4G-ready smartphone is already available to pre-order in the UK with prices starting at just £21 a month.

Samsung Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 and TabPRO range

Samsung

Everyone was expecting Samsung to unveil the Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3 Lite, but the company decided to unveil a range of next generation tablets instead. These tablets will all feature amazing 2560×1600 resolution displays.

The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 has a whopping 12.2-inch display and incorporates Samsung’s much-loved S-Pen interface. The tablet has a high-end specification and marks the start of a new breed of larger- tablets.

Samsung also unveiled the new Galaxy TabPRO range made up of 12.2, 10.1 and 8.4 inch models. The largest tablet in the range is identical to the NotePRO 12.2, it however doesn’t feature the S-Pen interface.

Asus ZenFone range

Asus

Most products unveiled at CES tend expensive technology, but Asus decided to break this trend by unveiling affordable Android smartphones that go for as little as £60.

The largest of the new smartphones is the Asus ZenFone 6 which comes with 6 inch 720p IPS display. It costs just £100 and is powered by a Intel Atom 2.0GHz processor and has a stunning 13 mega-pixel camera.

The £80 Asus ZenFone 5 has the camera reduced to 8 mega-pixels and it has less RAM. Its 5-inch display still runs at the same 720p resolution, giving it a higher pixels-per-inch rating than it’s bigger brother.

The £60 Asus ZenFone 4 compromises on screen resolution, power and features but offers great value for money.

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G

Huawei

The Chinese were not left behind as Huawei once again showed why they are dominating Western markets. At CES 2014 they unveiled the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G, which is an affordable 4G phablet.

The 6.1′  Enhanced HD (EHD) Touch Screen phablet is the successor to the Huawei Ascend Mate and it improves on the original in a number ways.

The battery is a 4050mAh Li-Polymer which Huawei says enables you to surf the internet for half a day or listen to 100 hours of music before a recharge is needed.

The Ascent Mate2 is fully compatible with 4G LTE  (LTE Cat
