The Bloggers association of Kenya (BAKE) is a community that seeks to empower creation of online content. BAKE has realised that one way to encourage people to read and write for blogs is through instilling the reading culture from a tender age. It is with this in mind that BAKE has launches the “Adopt A Library” campaign in partnership with Grab A Book.
Adopt A Library will be BAKE’s first CSR project. BAKE wants to encourage the next generation of bloggers to start reading and help them be able to also write their own stories.
Grab a Book, the organisation behind the initiative, has already set-up one library. BAKE is partnering with them to set-up a second one. The first library was set up at Seedlings Junior School. It has 50 registered members so far and the children’s grades have improved by at least 25%.
The project BAKE is involved with is the library for Shadrack Kimalel Primary school. We are currently looking for donations to help make a difference in these children’s lives.
The cost of setting up a library is as follows:
i) 300 books to be bought at Kshs. 200 which amounts to Kshs. 60,000.
ii) 3 puzzles/games going for Kshs. 4000 which amounts to Kshs. 12,000
iii) 3 shelves going for Kshs. 12,000 which amounts to Kshs. 36,000
The total cost of setting up of the library is Kshs. 108,000. You can help support this cause by either making a monetary donation or by supplying books.
Book donations can be dropped at our office at Nailab, 4th Floor, Bishop Magua Centre on Ngong Road.
Monetary donations can be sent via M-Pesa to 0704 090 471.
