BAKE launches Daystar University Chapter

The Team behind the BAKE chapter

Wednesday March 26 saw BAKE officially launch the first Chapter in an educational institute. Daystar, Ahti River campus was the venue for this. The launch of the Chapter was made thanks to the help of the Daystar Language Departments and Dr. Wandia Njoya.

The event was marked with a training session. The students were split into 2 groups. One was for students wishing to start blogging while the second was for established bloggers looking to learn more about it.

Njeri Wangari and Kennedy Kachwanya handled the new bloggers. They went through a step by step process highlighting the best platforms to use to set up a blog and how to select a domain name. They also covered issues on how to publish your first post and the different features each platform has.

The second group of students was trained by Robert Kunga. He took them through what you can do to increase traffic to your blog and monetize it. One thing that came out of this was the need to be committed, consistent and produce good quality content.

The group then had a networking session where the bloggers got to interact and learn from each other as well.

THe launch of the chapter was marked with a speech from the Dean of Students, Mr Thuku. He talked about noticing that blogging has grown. He encouraged the students to take it up and become “bakers” by joining BAKE. He also cautioned them to practice responsible blogging and not to plagiarise or defame others.

The Daystar chapter is now set to sign up members and select officials to run it.

We wish them all the best!
