A look at the Kenyan blog awards over the years

The Kenyan Blog Awards 2014 gala is set to be held on May 3 at the Intercontinental hotel. We at BAKE are looking forward to awarding bloggers for their great work.

Over the past years, there have been some notable changes in the awards.

The inaugural BAKE Blog Awards was held in 2012. It rewarded bloggers in 14 categories; best technology, photography, creative writing, business, food, agriculture, fashion, politics, sports, general and corporate blogs as well as giving out awards for the “tweeps” of the year. 300 blogs were submitted and 10,000 people voted. The gala event to award the winners was held on 5th May 2012 at Nairobi Serena Hotel with Larry Madowo as the host.

The second edition of the awards were held in 2013. It rewarded bloggers in 15 categories. ‘Lifestyle/Entertainment’, ‘Blog of the Year’ & ‘Travel Blog’ were added as categories after removing the two twitter categories i.e. Best Individual Tweep & Best Corporate Tweep. Over 500 blogs were submitted and 50,000 people voted. The gala event to awards the winners was on 4th May 2013 at Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi. Larry Madowo was once again the host for the evening.

At the 2013 awards, two bloggers; Nancie Mwai and Mutua Matheka managed to bag awards for the second year running. Niaje emerged the biggest winner of the night by bagging the Best Entertainment/Lifestyle blog and the Kenyan Blog of The Year categories.

The 2014 awards has seen the addition of 2 categories, Best County blog and Best Health blog, which brings the total number to 17. Over 100 blogs have been submitted and voting is set to close on April 30.

As we count down the days to May 3 one question we can’t help but ask is: will any of the previous winners emerge victorious again? One thing for sure is that the 2014 awards gala is set to be a spectacular event.
