Habits bloggers need to put a stop to

Blogger habits

As a blogger, there are things you end up doing when you post and they turn into a habit. Day after day, people who read your content will find the same things. Some habits are good, others not so much.

Here are five habits you need to break.

Plagiarism

Getting content is not an easy thing. Sometimes, your brain just won’t come up with anything new you can write about. So as you sit there trying to figure out how to get out of that dump, you come across an interesting article that you would love to share with your readers. SO you hit the copy buttons, paste it and publish as if it were your own original piece.

It’s time you stopped that. If you like something, re-blog it or see permission to share it. If you want to only take a small potion, make sure you attribute and name the sources that gave the information.

Checking your stats and comments 100 times a day

As a blogger, it’s very easy to become obsessed  with web traffic and comments on your site. You have notifications and reminders to alert you to check if the number has increased every hour.

It becomes a waste of time constantly checking your traffic. Instead, focus that time on more productive things like writing new posts for your blog. What you can do is check twice a day; morning and winning.

Not replying to comments

Have you ever commented on a blog only for your comment to go unanswered? It’s a bad habit that seems to be cropping up among bloggers. It doesn’t matter what kind of comment someone leaves on your blog, you need to acknowledge and respond to it. It will make them see their feedback is important and allow you to know if anything on your blog needs to be changed.

Inconsistency in posting

When you first start a blog, you tend to have a lot of content that slowly runs out. It reaches a pint where you produce little or no content at all. At this point you figure a break is needed to jump start your creative juices afresh.

Avoid the taking a hiatus as much as possible. It will result in your posting being irregular and your readers will lose interest in your site. You need to be consistent in your work. If you have to make a habit of posting only once a week to give you more time to dedicate to your writing then do it.

Not proofreading your posts

I will confess to being guilty of this on several occasions. Sometimes you write a post and post it up without checking for typos, grammatical errors and ensuring that it makes sense. This makes you lose credibility and professionalism.

Make it a habit to proof read your work. If possible, have someone else do it so you can get an unbiased opinion as well as a fresh set of eyes.

This are just but a few habits that would make you a great blogger if you put a stop to them. What other habits do you think bloggers need to put a stop to?
