What you should eat when you have the flu

There seems to be a cold going round the office(or maybe it’s around town). It’s at that point where we don’t want to be next to each other or shake hands. I tried this trick but it didn’t seem to work coz I have the sniffles and it is making work hectic.

I am not a fan of medication so all those pills and herbal remedies people recommend to cure a flu are not being ingested any time soon. My mother(bless her soul) recommended a few foodstuffs I could try out that would help. I decided to share that list with you so you can also fight the cold easily.

1. Chicken Soup

This old remedy is recommended by everyone. I am not a fan of soup but the fact that it’s chicken soup seemed to be fine and it’s something I can’t wait to try out. Chicken soup reduce inflammation in the lungs and makes breathing more comfortable when you have congestion

2. Yogurt

Did you know dairy products are rich in zinc, which supports the immune system. Get yourself some creamy yogurt and boost your immunity as you make your taste-buds feel good. Add a few berries to make it tastier.

3. Citrus

Oranges and other products rich in citrus may not prevent colds, but thye do make you feel better faster. They also have a slight antihistaminic effect, which may reduce nasal symptoms. Visit your fruit vendor and grab yourself a few oranges and lemons.

4. Spices

I am anti-spices since I react to most of them. But garlic, turmeric and green pepper apparently help with colds so I would recommend you adding some to your meals. Their strong flavouring can help break up nasal and sinus congestion which will make you feel better faster.

These are just a few of the foods recommended. If you have a cold, try them out and get well soon J
