Wendywahito.com was crowned the Best New Blog at the just concluded Kenyan Blog Awards 2014. It’s a food blog run by 22 year old Wendy Wahito who is in her final year at USIU studying Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Wendy Wahito is a blog that mainly showcases easy recipes that one can have a look and try out. It gives knowledge on food recipes that you would probably spend an arm and leg on if you went out for a meal, yet you can easily make it at home. Wendy has done a few restaurant reviews, basically all things about food and the love for it.
The blog came up, as a random idea after, many interests from the food pictures she would post up on social media. Getting comments like: “you made that? No way!!” After weeks of thinking it through and researching with her team, she came up with the idea of doing short, yet fun episodes/vlogs. This way she got to share my passion with everyone else.
After wining, we spoke to her to know more on what to expect going forward. This is what she had to say.
1. How does it feel to have won the Best New blog in the Kenyan Blog Awards 2014?
I feel very humbled to have received this award; I honestly didn’t even think I would have won. I thank the Almighty God, the fans, family and friends, my team and everyone who has supported me from day one.
2. What are your thoughts on the Kenyan Blog Awards?
The Kenyan blog awards is just amazing, because they have given us a platform where we could be appreciated for what we do. I’m sure with much more growth it will be phenomenal.
3. Who/what is your motivation to blog?
My passion, I want to be a Michelin star chef and to share my culinary journey… It started off as a hobby, but I’m working on growing to be a brand.
4. What should people expect from your blog in future?
I’m working on exciting new content for the remaining part of this year, look out for fun episodes, amazing yet very easy recipes. People should look out for more restaurant reviews as well. Also, God willing there will be the start of a new chapter when I enroll to culinary school next year.
5. What are your top 3 Kenyan blogs and why?
Mutua Matheka – I love his photography, he has very creative shots and angles.
My dear Doris because it’s very intriguing and interesting especially the story behind it all. Good stuff
The TDS BLOG – I love their fashion features and their website too, it’s very cool.
6. What advice would you give to upcoming bloggers?
First and foremost, don’t just blog cause everyone does… believe in what you do don’t let anyone ever bring you down. Listen to your heart and reach for the stars. Everything with God is possible under the sun.
