The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) has today announced that it will be a sponsor at the upcoming Social Media Awards (SOMA). SOMA is the second competition to recognize and reward Kenyan bloggers. The other competition is the Kenyan Blog Awards which had its 3rd edition this year. In addition, SOMA is one of two competitions in Kenya that reward digital content creation.
James Wamathai, BAKE’s Director of Finance and Partnerships, has this to say about the partnership “We are pleased to continue this partnership with SOMA. Social media uptake in Kenya is increasing by the day and so it is important to have a mechanism to reward those that are doing it right and that’s where SOMA comes in. This year’s competition will be bigger and better and I am urging individuals and companies to take part,”
This year, SOMA will run with the theme “Making Social Media Work for You”. It will bring together different players in the market including corporate organizations, personalities, SMEs, students, county governments, and national government agencies.
“We are proud to be associated with BAKE. By bringing together bloggers in Kenya, BAKE will help increase online engagement. They will also ensure that different bloggers other than those we had last year, will be part of SOMA 2014,” said SOMA director Martin Muli.
Last year’s OLX Social Media Awards had 25 categories including Social Media News Channel of the Year, Social Media Personality of the Year, Social Media Corporate Award of the Year and Social Media Innovation of the Year.
Submissions for the awards will officially open on July 22.
