Everyone loves a compliment. I know I do. That being said, I have to admit that sometimes feel uncomfortable when someone gives me a compliment. I feel good and want to bask in the awesomeness of being complimented, but sometimes i just don’t know what to do in that situation.

Many of us feel this way at times. I have seen people freeze up when complimented and make the situation so awkward. You feel good when someone says something nice to you or about you, but how do you react? Do you just smile, brush them off or justify the reason behind the comment? This post will give you a few tips on how to accept a compliment.

Believe it or not, saying thank you is the easiest way to accept a compliment. When someone says “your hair looks nice,” your only response should be “thank you.” Don’t go further to justify how you spent so many hours and times making it. Deflecting a compliment by saying more than thank you can make you seem a bit rude. Next time someone says something nice to you, smile and say thank you and leave it at that.

Too many times we respond to compliments by pointing out something slightly negative. This needs to stop. If someone task about your dress, don’t point out how it is old and too tight of late. Instead say thank you and point out something interesting about it. Like how it was a gift from your friend. Make what people compliment you about even more interesting to them with a few nicely said words.

When someone gives you kudos, see if you can get them to elaborate a bit; their feedback might be really useful for future endeavours. If someone says they love your photographs, it would be best to ask what they like best about them. It can be a guiding reference when you take more photographs. Tyr and find out what impressed them.

Saying thank you is polite, but also offering some flattery of your own is polite and thoughtful. It’s not about putting down your achievements, it’s simply a way to start a conversation in which both people involved appreciate each other. It can be as simple as saying something like, “I was just admiring your outfit as well!”.

Being complimented boosts your confidence. it doesn’t hurt to return the favour to those around you. Keep it simple and accept the compliments. Don’t over-think anything or deflect good words when they come your way
