BAKE training in Bungoma – How it went down

Last weekend (February 28th), we were at Bungoma Sports Center for a one day training on blogging and social media. Our scheduled training in Bungoma was is in line with our mission to impart as much knowledge about the art of blogging to as many people as possible.

We got to Bungoma the evening before the event to a warm welcome from our hosts Dennis Machio and and Walter Machio, both of Bungoma Sports Club. By morning we were well rested from the long drive from Nairobi and ready to get on with the training.

Njeri Wangare kicked off the training, tackling basics of blogging and social media, writing skills and readership, personal branding online, and understand copyright. Up next was Kennedy Kachwanya who talked about making money online and especially by the use of blogs. Then came Collins Nabiswa who looked at blogging versus mainstream media and the seemingly delicate balance between the two. Last but not east was Wanjiru Kihusa who let us in on using social media for a course and running successful campaigns.

We had an eager and enthusiastic audience who had started getting into the venue even before official starting time. The sessions were very interactive and some members of the audience were quite hilarious, keeping the training fun and involving throughout. It was a packed and intensive training with two tea breaks and lunch break in-between, during which there was time for meet and greet and networking between the potential bloggers of Bungoma and the BAKE team.

Western Kenya is known for their love for chicken and we were looking forward to some of that during lunch break. Our hosts did not disappoint, feeding everyone to their fill of the delicacy.

Football PaintAfter that, it was time to relax and take time off from the rigors of the day and for some of us, what better way to end the day than to enjoy a bit of soccer practice with the neighborhood children who come to play at the Bungoma Sports Club.

It was our first time in Bungoma and judging from the enthusiastic reception of the message, we’ll certainly be going back for more in-depth trainings.
