Fun and simple ways to spend your Easter holiday

easter-weekend_1426140407‘Pasakha’, is the equivalent of Easter Holiday in Swahili. It is a day that Christians commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and usually begins on a Friday and spills over to Sunday.

Have you ever memorized the date for this Holiday? If you have, then you are lying through your teeth because Easter is a movable Holiday. Meaning it does not have a specific date on our Calendar; it usually falls on the Sunday following the first moon (full) after the famous vernal equinox. In a nut shell, this is the period between March 22 and April 25.

It is not a Holiday if you do not receive a gift from friends and family? Right? …. Wrong! Most of us have commercialized all the holidays, Easter included. However, spending time with your loved ones can be equally satisfying and cheaper too. Not that I have anything against gift-giving.

Here are some ideas on how you can make this Eater memorable:

Be charitable

You might not know it, but your closet has a lot of unwanted clothes and shoes. One man’s meat is another’s poison. By cleaning out your closet it is recommended that you donate the clothes to charity. A lot of children out there need this kind of assistance. Then again there is that unexplained feeling one gets when he/she does a good deed.

Try a new recipe

Have you ever visited a hotel and eaten a piece of barbeque steak that sent chills down you salivating tongue? You could ask the chef for the recipe (or maybe tip them so they can give it to you). Then, when you are home alone you can try it out. If you pull this through and the food is safe for consumption, you could show it off to your friends.

Spend time with others

After trying out that new recipe and it turns out lovely, you could use you family members as lab rats to test your cooking expertise. At times, some will try to lie to you that the food tastes great so you feel good about yourself, but in the end, all that matters is that you have spent some quality time with them. If for some unlucky reason your family is not around, there is that pet you have always ignored. A juicy piece of steak for ‘simba’ might do the trick and will go a long way in improving your man-dog relationship.

Try something you have never tried

If I had the money, I would probably take part in bungee jumping (I would probably pass-out through-out the whole experience, but at least I tried); I am dead scared of heights. You could try exploring an idea of your own, say, swimming, snorkeling and even hiking.

Throw a party

I am guessing, this is what you’ve been waiting for. Parties are a good place to mingle and have fun with friends, relatives and work mates. You can even ask them to chip-in in the finance department. There are different themes for parties; alcohol should not be the main focus here. A sleep-over can be a party, so can be a group of friends playing video games.

Sit at home (Alone)

You are probably someone who likes some ‘me time’ on many occasions. Well, you could spend your Easter Holiday at home, alone reading a book, watching movies or maybe counting that money you have been hiding under your mattress since you were in campus. Don’t laugh yet, money therapy actually works….. I think, maybe? Well, I am not so sure.
