Airtel KachAfter months of blog submissions, nominations, judging and planning, the Kenyan Blog Awards gala night where the winners of the 18 categories will be announced is finally coming up this coming Saturday May 2nd from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. The annual event is meant to recognize and reward outstanding bloggers on the basis of quality of content, consistency in posting, language use and marketing.

The categories are creative writing, lifestyle & entertainment, education, corporate, travel, sports, politics, agriculture, business, photography, fashion, technology, food, environmental, health, topical, best County and best new blog. There will also be a winner for the overall Kenyan Blog of the Year. It is not over until it is over and voting is still going on. Those who have not yet voted have upto the stroke of midnight on Friday 30th April to do so. If you’re one of those, head over to this site and vote for your favourite blog.

Blogging in Kenya has been growing in leaps and bounds over the years and this is evident from among other things, the number of blogs that have been submitted in this year’s Kenyan Blog Awards. During the inaugural blog awards in 2012, there were only 300 submissions and a total of 10,000 people voting. Last year there were 800 submissions and a total of 50,000 votes. This year, we had 1,800 blogs submitted into the competition and as per the trends, it is clear that readers will vote in even larger numbers. This is a clear indication of growth in terms of numbers. We can authoritatively say that quality of content is also getting better and better with time.

This year, like other years before, we are pleased to be in partnership with several brands that believe in our course and who have recognized the role of bloggers in the information world. Chief among them is Airtel Kenya who are our Gold sponsors for the 2015 awards. Commenting about the sponsorship, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said that Airtel is cognizant of the important role that blogging plays in creating an informed society. After all, blogging provides real time information and commentary through creative and in-depth writing.

Other sponsors for this year’s awards are Intel, Infinix, Expose, X-news, Tecno mobile, NIC Bank, Coca Cola, Easy Taxi, Kenic, Nation Media Group and Intercontinental Hotel where the gala event will be held. You are welcome to join us at the event. Tickets are on sale and payment for the same can be done at our office at the Nailab, 4th floor Bishop Magua Centre, or via Airtel Money Paybill number 865850. A ticket is going for Kshs.2,000/- and they’re are on sale upto 29th April 2015.

May the best blog win.
