How to make breadcrumbs

Is it just me or do homemade breadcrumbs taste better than store-bought breadcrumbs? What makes them better is that it’s so easy to make them, and you get to save money at the same time.

I am not a huge fan of bread, so there is always a few slices or pieces in the house that will go uneaten. Making breadcrumbs is something to do with this bread rather than throwing it out. FOr this, you will need to have a food processor.

Any type of bread (white, wheat, sourdough, rye, etc.) can be used.  You could also combine various breads – why let them go to waste? The mixture of various breads will give your dishes a great and unique taste.

One word of advice; don’t use stale bread. Stale bread will result in stale tasting breadcrumbs. Dry bread is what is needed to make your own breadcrumbs. If your bread is too fresh, you could dry it for a few minutes in the toaster or oven.

Once your bread is dry, tear it into smaller pieces and place it in your food processor. Whirl the processor until you get the desired coarseness of breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs

I Personally like to grind mine until it has a coarse texture. This way, if I need finer crumbs, I just regrind the amount needed when making my dish.

If you don’t have a food processor, a box grater will work. Toast your bread, then grate it. It’s a long process, but it works just as well.
