Does the length of a blog post matter?

blog length

BAKE just started a guest post section on the blog. We reached out to a few bloggers about it and one question kept coming up: how long should the post be. It’s a question any blogger has had to deal with from time to time.

I’ve been blogging on and off for about a year now. Sometimes’ i’m in the mood of doing over a thousand words, other times 100 words is my focus. To me it’s all about the traffic that a post will generate as well as the quality of the words I write.

One question I ask myself is, are people counting my words or reading the information I post? I know we should go with what’s measurable. So should I do 250 words and compromise on good quality content simply to get more traffic to the blog?

If it’s all about traffic, then maybe I should point out that majority of the internet traffic is non-human. This is according to a study conducted by Incapsula, a web security service. It states that humans only account for 38.5 percent of all website traffic on the Internet. The remaining  61.5 percent is computer generated software. So why generate a lengthy post just for them?

The question on the length of a post all depends on the blogger. If you can convey a message in a few words, go ahead. If not, then write some good words and hope to keep people reading long enough to reach the end. Personally, I go with a word limit, I consider that someone has taken time and used internet bundles to open the link. I make it worth it by not having to short a post, and not making it too long. To me the length is not important, the message is.

I’m not an expert so I can’t fully answer this. I leave it to the readers.  Does the length of a post really matter?
