I am a book junkie! I can buy upto 20 books in a month and it’s become hard to walk in the streets since I can’t walk past the book vendors. Reading isn’t a bad thing, the problem is what to do with all the books once i’m done reading them.
This is something many people struggle with. So i wracked my brain and searched the internet for ideas on what to do with old books. Here are a few things you ca try out.
Spread the love
Don’t keep your books all to yourself and let them collect dust on the shelves. There are several book vendors and old bookshops that will take them off your hands for a fee. If that isn’t your way of doing things, you can try out the online platforms and sell them. If you happen to be a collector like me and have all books of a certain series, make it better by selling them all at a reduced cost compared to bookstores.
Donate to the kids
You are bound to have lots of kids books lying around as your children outgrow reading them. As sentimental s it is, you should let go of the books as well. Donate them for a worthy cause and help other children enjoy reading them as well. You cna do this through story Moja’s initiative: Start a Library. Also donate to BAKE’s CSR project Adopt a Library. We will be glad to get some of the books out of your hand.
Have a Book Swap
There is a growing reading community in Kenya. Why not call up people you know and host a book swap party? Bring five to 10 of your recent reads and your favourite snack to share. Add a round (or two) of cocktails and enjoy!
Start an office library
How many of you can say your office has books to keep you and visitors entertained? Solve this problem by setting aside an extra shelf in your office for employees to bring their used books. The one rule you should have is: take a book, leave a book.
Get artsy with your books
You can be inspired to make some art pieces from your books. If you have some hardcover books that are falling apart, use them to make a creative heard board, or picture frames. You can also pile up your books in a fancy way and have them a s a lamp stand around your home.
