Different types of readers

When was the last time you read a book? Whatever the time was, did it ever cross your mind to think about your reading habits and what they say about you? For the longest time, I didn’t know there are as many ways to read as there are readers. We all have different tastes when it comes ot book, and we are different types of readers.  We can actively engage and question the text, or we can be more passive. We can read to challenge and push ourselves, or we can read as a form as escapism.

I am a certified book addict (hopefully this is a real thing). I love books and in the course of my reading I realised I needed to understand why I react to certain books in certain whys. Readers come in all shapes and sizes. Here are just a handful of types you should be aware of:

Readers who focus on character

This reader delves deep into the literary world. When it comes to character study, they don’t understand how you can term a character as being boring. Their love for a character stems form the fact that the characters share our humanity and will make us think about situations in our lives.

Readers who care more about what happens than who the people involved are

These readers love action, adventure, and a fast pace where something is always at risk or someone is always in danger. They aren’t heartless but they aren’t very concerned about what is happening to the characters.

Readers who want to know what happens in a book before they read

This reader tends to skip ahead to the end of the book. They need to know how it will end before finding out what happens to get the characters to that point. They are emotional and need to know if the characters end up i happy in the end. If not, they are already prepared for the outcome and won’t be surprised.

Readers who skip or skim passages

Some readers like skipping whole chapters when the content feels “dull” to them. Sometimes they’ll skip to the end of a really long passage of description that doesn’t hold their interest. It makes sense not to waste time reading passages you don’t care about. I sometimes wish I could do that but i prefer reading every single word of the story.

Readers who read multiple books at a time

Will it be weird if I confessed I can read 5 books at a time? Yes, it happens. These readers love a captivating story and once they see a book with such content, they will read that book. It doesn’t matter if they have other books they are reading, they will read a bit of each at a time till they finish the last book. Sometimes it’s just a way to prolong the ending of a good book.
