How long does it take you to write a blog post of about 500 words? On a good day you might get 3 500 worded articles done. On a bad day, especially if you have what we like to call writer’s block, it might take you even up to a week to get those 3 articles done. But this is just an estimate; some people can do ten posts on a good day and 5 posts on a bad day.
If your blog is how you earn a living, you need to produce regular content. You need to be able to write content as quickly as possible without skimping on quality. That’s what this article is about – how to make writing content easier for you.
Have a running list of topics
Some bloggers come up with topics when they sit down to write. It’s an on-the-spot brainstorming session for them. This is one habit that isn’t ideal for anyone. The best way is to have a running list of topics you need to write about. I use Evernote for this purpose. It helps me jot down all my topic ideas even when I’m on the go and an idea hits me. You should all have such lists, either on your phone, laptop or a notebook.
Having this running list of topics makes it easier to write because you do not have to sit there and read and think about what you have to write. Just look at your list, and you already have a headstart.
Do research before writing
Failing to do research will only make you end up with half-baked ideas and sentences in your post. Take the time to know more about what you are writing about. Some people would disagree, but doing research makes it easier and faster to write. It takes time but the process is worth it in the end.
Make an outline
When I’m writing, I prefer having an outline – it helps me write faster.
It basically cuts down my writing time drastically because the ideas are already laid out in a (more or less) cohesive manner. The sections are laid out. The flow of the article is there. All I need to do is “fill in the blanks”. The flow of the article might change and the outline is switched up but simply filling in the ideas of what to say is easier.
It’s 3 simple things, 3 easy habits to form. Without them I would have major problems coming up with posts. Try them out and see if they will change your blog post writing process.
