Why Keywords are Important for your Blog

Keywords are ideas and topics that tell readers/visitors what your content is all about.

In Search Engine Optimization, Keywords are those words or phrases you enter into a search engine when you are looking for something online. They are important because they act as the bridge between the content you are providing and what people are searching for online. What you want is to rank high on the search engine result pages so that you can drive more traffic to your site. The keywords you choose to include in your content will determine the kind of content you get.

Inasmuch as keywords are about the content you produce, it is also about the kind of visitors you get on a daily basis. While they describe what you offer, they can also tell you who your readers are. Therefore in order to create content that ranks high and drive visitors to your site, you need to understand what those visitors need. This includes what they use and the type of content they want.

Types of keywords

There are two types of Keywords:

  • Head keywords
  • Long-tail keywords

Head Keywords are all High Search Keywords & also highly competitive in nature. So generally keyword ranking in search Engine Results Pages will take a long time. The head keyword is a general term lots of people write about. For example, If you own a Fashion blog, words like “marketing strategy” or “Fashion” is a Head Keyword.

A long-tail keyword is more specific than a head keyword, and most of the times – but not necessarily – it consists of more words. A long-tail keyword is a more specific topic or a subtopic of the head term. Usually, fewer people create content about this topic. An example could be “Converting leads to customers” or “Fashion stores in Kenyatta Avenue”

As a website owner and content creator, you want the keywords on your page to be relevant to what people are searching for so they have a better chance of finding your content among the results.
