There is an exponential growth in Digital Advertising in Kenya. The web today is such that brands are increasingly adopting bloggers and influencers as their brand ambassadors and enlisting them to push their products online.
The advancement in Digital Advertising means growth of bloggers, influencers and other online content creators, who contribute directly to the online advertising industry. But is that the scenario? Is the same level of growth reflected in the blogosphere?
Cases have been cited where bloggers have been approached to endorse a product and instead of compensation, they have been made to believe that they will reap from the publicity garnered from endorsing the product.
New and upcoming bloggers suffer the brunt of exploitation when they agree to work for some brands, most times without compensation. These cases bring to light the fact that most bloggers;
a) Do not know their worth online.
b) Do not recognize the powerful role they play in advancing corporate brands.
This is the reason why we will hold a Monetization Workshop on Saturday, 20th February 2016 at Nailab, Bishop Magua Centre, on Ngong Rd.
This Workshop will bring together bloggers and experts from the corporate world in a panel sitting to discuss whether some brands are exploiting bloggers by either not paying for content or paying way below the going rate for services.
Through this workshop, we hope to;
- Forge a cordial working partnership between brands and bloggers that will be mutually beneficial to both parties and devoid of exploitation.
- Encourage bloggers to take their work seriously and see it as an income-generating activity, possibly even make blogging part of their career goals.
- Make bloggers understand the role they play in Digital Advertising and empower them to seek compensation for their craft.
The panel will consist of:
