Reasons why you should change your web host

thinking

A while back, we talked about what to consider when picking a web host. There’s so much to consider when you move to having your blog self hosted. When you do pick the right one, running your website becomes a walk in the park.
You must however realize that it’s not all rosy for everyone. Sometimes things go wrong and you need to change your host and look for greener pastures. Question is, how do you know the time has come?

One way of knowing that time has come is when your site has too much down time. Sites may not be up 100% of the time. But if yours goes down 40% of the time, it’s time to get a better option. You need a host who can ensure your site is up and running at all times or close to that. Going offline once in a blue moon might be acceptable but you shouldn’t settle for hosting that has you running up and down to get your site back up almost every day of the week.

You may also think of changing your host when and if the cost of the service is too expensive. Look at other hosting options and compare the deal you have with the rest. Sometimes a host will charge you a lot for less bandwidth yet you can get more space from someone else. Think of the money you spend on the service provided. If you are not getting your money’s worth, it’s time to change ship.

Poor customer service is also a valid reason to change your web host. So you’re site is down, you call the host and they are rude or refuse to help you out. Whenever you need assistance from the host, your calls go unanswered or are not responded to in time. Having a host who cares of you is part of the experience of self-hosting. It’s always a good idea to get one who will deliver assistance in a timely and efficient manner.

Sometimes a web host may run out of bandwidth space to allocate your site. You therefore have no way of saving your work or uploading new content. If and when the web host cannot increase your bandwidth, you will be justified to move. Get a web host that can accommodate your growing blog and adjust the bandwidth accordingly.

These are just but a few reasons o change web hosts. It’s not a decision to take lightly. Think of the relationship and trust you have and consider if it is worth the move. If the only way your site can improve is to change web hosts then go ahead.
