We had a chance to interview blogger Abel Muhatia to feature on our weekly blogger profile and we got a lot to share with you on his blogging journey. Abel is a whole piece of inspiration that you shouldn’t miss.
Besides blogging, Abel has been an active activist for the vulnerable. His latest campaign being impacting school-going children and shoeless and vulnerable members of the society.
In his words, he says, “this gives me happiness. I would give my last coin even when I most need it just to see another soul happy”
We asked him some questions and this is what he had to say:
Give us a brief profile of yourself.
This is probably one of the hardest questions one can ask me. Nonetheless, I am an avid writer, with a bias in matters business and Technology – but besides this, I am first a believer in Jesus Christ, a son, a brother, a leader, and a father.
Share something interesting about yourself
Well, I’d give my last coin even when I most need it just to see another soul happy, that’s enough to give me contentment. Besides, I enjoy working with loud music on, and when the world is silent in the middle of the night, with my music on- that’s when I enjoy writing and working the most. I call it my hour of sowing.
What attracted/inspired you into blogging
To be honest, curiosity did, then networking opportunities and when I learnt I can get some honey out of it, I was sold! While in college, one of my career mentors was a blogger and she was doing supper well, she helped me to open my first blog and I never looked back!
You could have written about anything, why this niche specifically?
True. I am born of a businesswoman; she has been my inspiration from the time I realized who she really is. Through her, I developed an interest to want to know more about businesses, blogging has helped me to do so because I have to do lots of research about businesses, for the tech bit, I am, by default moved by anything techy that challenges the status quo, always wanting to know how they work and what next. By writing about these topics, I get to understand them better, a step at a time.
What accomplishments are you proud of most?
Wow, that I am back in the blogging space! Fell, rose, dusted myself and you all are not ready for my next phase of growth. But besides partnering with my friends to unveil TBB (The Business Break) I founded BIZNEWS ( BAKE Awards Best Business blog 2017) which from scratch I made it known to many across the region. Since then, I have been able to train over 100 people on digital literacy, blogging and Fake News, this impacting of knowledge and lighting another candle is one of my most cherished achievements.
If you could sit down with your 13-year-old self, what would you tell him?
Do not worry son, you got this!
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Resilient. Patient. Assertive
If you could time travel, where would you go?
Mt. Kenya, Durban-South Africa, Paris-France.
What is the weirdest food combination you have ever tied?
Ugali and Beans or someone serving ugali greens and potatoes, how do you even serve Ugali and potatoes????
If you were not a blogger, what would you be instead? Do you have a day job?
Yes, I do have a day job. However, I’ve always wanted to work as a diplomat, hopefully, someday I will.
Of all the posts you have ever written, which one is your favourite? why?
All of them. I don’t take my time invested in penning down a story for granted. They all mean a good step to me in the right direction.
What is the most difficult thing you ever had to do?
Saying No I can’t to a needy case due to inevitable circumstances though my heart wants to support. Also, filing returns when clearly, I don’t experience proper services in the hospitals, walking on bad roads and shop expensively for the most basic needs!
Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
My Mother! I rank her five stars. A real field marshal she is. Why? Because she stood ground with my siblings and I when everyone else turned their necks away from us! Because she never gives up and she has passed that to us, to me.
Besides blogging, what else do you do? What is your obsession?
Charity work. I love impacting school-going children and shoeless and vulnerable members of our society by giving them a pair of shoes to keep them going! I am also into training and mentorship which I do whenever given an opportunity.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Never to give up, till to date, it’s my life motto.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself successfully running my own firm and probably a new diplomat in the marketplace!
Is there a quote/mantra you live by?
Yes, Never Ever Give Up, Never!! Also, if you want to reach your destination, don’t stop to throw stones at every dog that barks.
If you would be a superhero, who would you be and why?
I’d want to be Jesus. Why? To bring hope to the hopeless, heal the sick, and just let people be happy. I would also whip out bad leadership from governments across the world, especially in Africa (laughs out loud)
What lessons have you learned the most from 2020 and how do you plan to make a difference?
Don’t be too comfortable, pandemics do happen! I am challenging myself to learn one more new skill that will always make me be ahead of the curve.
