If you have used Facebook Live before to connect with your audience, you might want to take action now.
Facebook is rolling out a major change that affects how long live videos are stored on the platform. For content creators, brands, and pages, and this update has serious implications for managing and preserving past broadcasts.
Starting February 19, 2025, all Facebook Live videos will be stored for only 30 days. After this period, they will automatically be removed from your page or profile and deleted from Facebook’s servers for good. This means that the days of finding your old Live videos from years ago in your archives are officially over.
But that’s not all. As part of this transition, Facebook will also begin deleting all Live videos published before February 19. If you have any older broadcasts maybe a past event, award show, or livestreamed discussion you have until July 2, 2025 to download them before Meta parmanently deletes them.
Facebook says the change is meant to align with how most people use the platform where live video content typically sees most of its engagement in the first few days. For organizations that rely on long-form content for reference, storytelling, or historical archives, this is the time to rethink how you manage your digital content.
So what should you do? Start by reviewing your Live video library. Download anything worth keeping. You can save the videos directly to your device or transfer them to services like Google Drive or Dropbox. For future content, set reminders to back up each video before the 30-day expiry hits.
Ultimately, this policy shift signals Facebook’s move toward a leaner, more real-time video experience .
